I thought this was Susan Isaac's best in a long time. She had a good take on what it is like to be in one's 70's as well as one's 20's. This is a story about a grandmother and her grandchildren, and the twist is that the grandma is a nasty, pushy bitch, and the grandchildren are actually the nice ones. No sweet little Yiddishe mama with ungrateful selfish grandchildren here. A refreshing switch actually.
Gloria Garrison, formerly Goldberg, is a successful businesswoman who heads up a cosmetics company, and she is no one to trifle with. She's reached the point where it is time to step down from her throne and pass on the realm, but to which of her three grandchildren?
How it all plays out is an unusual family saga. Isaacs returns to her roots here, with a lot more sarcasm and a lot less sentimentality. It's really a lot more fun than some of the books than fill her list between Compromising Positions and this one. Very entertaining.
